tour description

day 1

Your English-speaking guide will pick you up at your hotel in the morning and together you’ll start an unforgettable 4-day ethical jungle trekking adventure in the Sumatra Leuser National Park. You’ll cross a river and walk uphill for a while before reaching Jungle Point. From there, your guide will share his knowledge about animals and plants within the rainforest as you continue walking and you will pass amazing scenic viewpoints overlooking the whole valley of the Bohorok River.

At noon, you’ll have lunch at a picturesque spot where you can dine on nasi goreng, a famous Indonesian national dish, and exotic fruits. After lunch, you’ll head uphill to a fantastic view point. After a short break, you continue trekking upstream while looking out for more wildlife, more species of plants and trees.

If you’re lucky, many gibbons, Pigtail macaques, Thomas Leaf Monkeys, flying squirrels, Sumatran peacocks, hornbills, or even wild orangutans might cross your path!

After a long day of exploring, you arrive at your campsite near the river at 4.00 pm. There’s a jungle swimming pool near the campsite that you can enjoy while surrounded by the exotic beauty. You can also sit back and enjoy coffee or tea while your five star Michelin jungle chef prepares a fantastic dinner using local ingredients. After dinner, you can relax around the campfire with your guide as you listen to sounds of nature and marvel at the stars. It’s time to head inside for a good night’s sleep in your one million-star jungle tent with mattress, blankets and pillows.

day 2

The next morning, you awaken to the sounds of monkeys and birds. Around the campsite, you may see Sumatran monitors, tortoises, and butterflies.

After a delicious breakfast, you are ready for trekking. As you venture deeper into the rainforest, your chances of encountering wildlife increase. Maybe you get lucky and see several species of monkeys living in the Sumatra Leuser  National Park: the Sumatran orangutan, silver leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, Thomas leaf monkeys and pig-tailed macaques. You may also see other rarer species of primates like slow lorises, siamangs and white-handed gibbons.

At lunchtime, your guides prepare a meal while you take a rest. You’ll pass through scenic areas of the national park as you walk to the site.

The second night, we’ll set up your tent next to the Bohorok River, which has a larger jungle swimming pool than that at our first campsite. We’ll prepare your dinner and snacks around the campfire; afterwards you can enjoy sipping tea or Indonesian coffee while chatting with the guides and other guests. Enjoy the evening at your jungle camp by listening to jungle stories told by your guides and get a good rest, so you are ready for the next day.

day 3

After you wake in the jungle, you’ll be inspired by nature’s sounds.

After breakfast, we’ll pack up and hike to a new campsite, where you can rest and swim in the river.

You may be lucky enough to spot a deer, wild boar or one of the other animals that inhabit this rich ecosystem.

After you’ve finished your delicious dinner around the campfire, you can choose to sit back, relax and enjoy the sounds of the jungle as night falls. Or maybe you feel like going to sleep so you’re ready for an exciting day tomorrow.

day 4

After breakfast, your guide will adjust the trek distance and time as well as planned activities to your preferences. You can also just choose to relax at the campsite during this time. A light lunch will make you ready for your fun return by jungle taxi to your hotel in Bukit Lawang.

During this 4-day ethical jungle trekking it’s important not to feed animals or throw plastic into the wild, but instead put the plastic in your backpack until arrive at the campsite.

how can we help you?

Here are some of the most common questions we get from our customers. Hopefully, this will help you. Otherwise, don’t hesitate to contact us!

All of our trekking guides speak English… and a little orangutan language ; )

The items you will need most are cash money, good walking shoes/hiking boots, a flashlight/torch and mosquito repellent. There is possibility to change money in Bukit Lawang.

You might see orangutans on our jungle treks, but there is no guarantee! These animals live out in the wild, and it’s hard to know where they will be at any point of the day. But our jungle treks leave Bukit Lawang at 8:30 am and pass the old orangutan feeding area, so you have a good chance to see semi-wild orangutans up close.

Just bring your personal belongings in a small backpack and 1 large bottle of water. Our team will provide sleeping bags as well as safety jackets for tube rafting. There will be a porter to carry the equipment (tent, camping mats, mosquito nets) and food supplies.

You can either pay the full amount or pay a 30% deposit, and you can pay the rest of the fee when you arrive in Bukit Lawang. Send us an email and we will send you our account number to which you can transfer the money.

If you cancel at least:

Two weeks before the trekking date: We will refund your deposit minus any transaction fees.

One week before the trekking date: If you have paid the full amount, you will get a full refund minus 10% and transaction fees. If you only have paid the deposit, you will get half of your deposit back minus transaction fees.

Less than 24 hours before the trekking date: No refund will be provided.

We will use it to cover your treks and tours cancellations, as well as compensation for your guide.
